Here’s the Wednesday magic button: this is “Distorted Cymbals” by Mount Eerie. If you’ve been waiting for something to satiate your hungry soul, this be your tonic. Get hungry and let this song Phil you up.
“Distorted Cymbals” was recorded with Calvin Johnson in K’s very own Dub Narcotic Studio, and the B-side features a Selector Dub Narcotic remix entitled “Anglepoise Cymbals”. Put this date on your calendar: “Distorted Cymbals” b/w “Anglepoise Cymbals” (DBN122) hits the streets on February 7, 2012.
This semester I’m discovering how much I enjoy reading the newspaper, which is convenient, because the TU campus is chock full of free Collegians, USA Todays, and New York Timeses. It’s harder, but possible, to find the Tulsa World too, my favorite for the sports section.
Enjoyed the linked article proposing seven new(ish) conferences to participate in a 16-team NCAA FB playoff. I especially liked the suggestion for the Southwest conference (schools’ current conferences notes in parentheses):
Baylor (Big 12)
You know that the real reason I like it is because Tulsa got included. But also, it makes good geographic sense (call it the Texas and Friends conference) and contains a good balance of talent—it’s got some powerhouses, some programs whose fortunes are highly variable, and some schools whose success is mostly recent. And the rivalries! Preserving UT/A&M, restoring Horns/Hogs, establishing Mizzou/Arkansas, and giving some good private schools (Tulsa, Baylor, TCU, and SMU) the chance to form or firm up good blood feuds. Yes please.
I’m all for it. Who do I call to make it happen?
I think that Arkansas would really benefit as far drafting is concerned, our base is kinda caught in the middle of conference lines. Going back to a SWC type scheme would be interesting, and I think something needs to be done to distribute the obvious weight of the SEC. If there was a wide spread redistricting, I think it would really help eliminate teams like Boise from just riding on the lack of opponents. I still don’t think it is very likely though, seeing that the big 12 has been asking Arkansas to join for the past couple years, so at this point it is all just powerplays to turn an existing conference in a superconference.
I think the real story here is that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez adopted a puppy together. I mean who is going to gain custody when that relationship falls apart? These are the kind of questions that need answering!
